ABOUT THE COURSE
 
   
The Hospital offers a Certificate course in Ophthalmic Technology. The course content is comprehensive enough to train the students to attain proficiency in all areas of assisting the ophthalmologists in the outpatient department from taking history, testing visual acuity and errors of refraction, measuring glass power, charting colour blindness, performing tonometry, sterilizing and care of instruments and equipment, conducting optical evaluations as required by the ophthalmologist and participating in survey and eye and school screening camps.
     
   
The training will enable them to become a competent person as an assistant to the Ophthalmologists in established hospitals and also to private practitioners.
   
Practical oriented training
Basic Anatomy and Physiology.
External diseases and major causes of blindness
Refraction and Cataract
Preliminary examinations
Counseling of all eye diseases.
Participation in Eye and School screening camps.
     
  Details of the Course:
 

 

a) Eligibility: A pass in Higher Secondary  (+2) or its equivalent
b) Duration: The course is for a period of one year for course study and six months for internship

c) Medium of Instruction:

Application Fee : Rs.100/- in the form of Demand Draft in favour of “The Registrar, Bharathidasan University” payable at   Tiruchirappalli
    Other Fee: Fee to be remitted at the time of Admission by the students

  Procedure for Admission:
   
The application and prospectus can be obtained on payment of Rs.100/- by demand draft drawn in favour of “The Registrar, Bharathidasn University, Tiruchirappalli by sending it to  “The Chief Medical Officer, Mahathma Eye Hospital, Tennur, Tiruchirappalli - 620 017”along with requisition and two typed address slips.
   
Before filling in the application form, the candidate should go through the prospectus carefully.
   
Applications forms must be filled in with Block capital letter only by the Applicant in his / her own handwriting.
   
Incomplete application will be summarily rejected.
   
Admission cannot be claimed as a matter of right
   
 

Filled in application forms must be submitted with attested copies of the following Certificates

   
  • +2 Mark statement
  • Transfer Certificate
  • Community certificate

 

Originals of the above certificates must be submitted at the time of admission for

Internship
:
6 months

During the internship programme, students are rotated in various sub specialties like Refraction, Glaucoma, Retina, Pediatric, Ophthalmology, Contact Lens, Squint and Neuro Ophthalmology Operation Theatre, Optical Dispensing, Community Ophthalmology and Hospital Administration.
